SMITH COUNTY, Texas — The Texas Department of Public Safety has identified the victims in a four-vehicle crash that occurred Monday morning in Smith County.
According to DPS, the crash occurred around 9:40 a.m., on Troup Highway, just south of Tyler. near the intersection of Meador Cemetery Rd. and Troup Hwy.
DPS says a Honda Civic, driven by Charles Calahan, 94, of Tyler, was turning onto Troup Hwy. from Meadow Cemetery Rd. DPS says Calahan turned in front of a Ford Explorer, driven by Eddie Jackson, 66, of Troup, that was traveling south on Troup Hwy.
Calahan's car then struck a Chevrolet Suburban, driven by Jennifer Smith, 40, of Whitehouse, which was headed north on Troup Hwy.
At the same time, Jackson's SUV hit a Peterbilt Truck-Trailer, driven by Christopher Dixon, 25, of Chandler, that was also traveling south.
Calahan was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace James Meredith.
DPS says Smith and Jackson were taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries, while Dixon was not injured.
The crash remains under investigation.
