MARSHALL, Texas — One man is dead after a shooting that happened Saturday afternoon in Marshall.
According to the Marshall Police Department, around 1:30 p.m., officers responded to a report that a male had been shot at the Belaire Manor Apartments located in the 1300 block of Melanie Street.
Patrol officers with the Marshall Police Department immediately responded as did medical personnel from the Marshall Fire Department.
Officers say a Courtney Jamal Johnson, 31, was discovered at the location with several gunshot wounds.
Emergency crews rendered first aid to the victim but it was determined by medical personnel that he was deceased.
Police say Charles Ray Mason, 31, of Marshall was identified as the shooter by witnesses and was located a short distance from the scene by officers.
Mason was taken into custody and is being charged with one count of murder, one county of possession of a firearm by a felon and one county of tampering with physical evidence.
This investigation remains ongoing.
