RUSK COUNTY, Texas — One person is dead after a head-on collision between two SUVs in Rusk County on State Highway 64 Monday afternoon.
According to Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. Adam Albritton, a white SUV was headed east toward Turnertown, while a black SUV was moving west toward Tyler just after 1 p.m. The white SUV crossed over the center line and struck the black SUV head-on near the Smith County line.
The driver of the white SUV was pronounced dead at scene. Two people in the black SUV were taken to a Tyler hospital for injuries; however, the severity of their injuries is unknown, Albritton said.
DPS said it was raining heavily at the time of the crash. Weather could have most likely been a factor.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
