TYLER, Texas — A man has been charged with arson after a late Sunday night house fire in Tyler on North Broadway Ave.
Kenneth Lee Johnson, 59, of Tyler, was arrested Sunday on a charge of arson (reckless damage to a building or causing serious bodily injury or death). He remains in the Smith County Jail on a $50,000 bond, according to jail records.
Firefighters responded to a structure fire in the 1700 block of North Broadway Ave. around 9 p.m. City of Tyler Fire Marshal Joey Hooton said there was enough evidence found at the scene to make an arrest.
Hooton also said the house was significantly damaged because of the blaze, and the front of house was fully involved in flames.
Deputy Fire Marshal Jay McClung said two people lived in the home. McClung said the fire started in the porch and moved into the attic.
Hooton added the fire remains under active investigation. CBS19 will update this story as more information becomes available.
