TYLER (KYTX) - A Smith County Judge has sentenced Dennis Bendy to life in prison for the shooting death of 20-year-old Briana Young who was killed in a gang-related shootout at P.T. Cole Park.
The judge said gangs don't own parks and cities, gangs don't own turf.
It comes to a point where gang members believe they own certain turf. Judge says Bendy was acting in disregard of human life.
Earlier this month, Bendy was found guilty for the July 30, 2013 murder of Young who was shot and killed as her 3-year-old son watched. Young and her son were playing in the park when she got caught in the crossfire.
