LONGVIEW, Texas — Spring Hill head football coach and athletic director Kelly Mercer is out after four seasons at the helm.
He has informed district officials that he is resigning from his positions after posting an 11-29 record during his tenure.
SHISD hired Mercer away from Plano West in April 2015, where he served as the offensive coordinator. At the time of Mercer's hire at SHISD, the Panthers had boasted a 14-36 record over the past five seasons.
Mercer got his start in coaching in 1994 as the seventh-grade football coach at Plano ISD's Schimelpfenig Middle School, according to the Plano Star Courier. He began coaching sophomores at Shepton High School in 1997, but left for the OC job at West ISD a year later. He returned to Plano a year after arriving at West, where he would join the staff at Plano West ISD.
Spring Hill's last playoff appearance came in 2007 under Coach Robert Bero. They last won the district championship in 2003 led by Coach Steve Gaddis.
SHISD will now be on the hunt for their sixth HC/AD since 2009.
