TYLER, Texas — Coca-Cola produced one of the most famous commercials ever starring none other than "Mean" Joe Greene.
The advertisement premiered on October 1, 1979, before re-airing numerous times, most notably during Super Bowl XIV.
Now, 40 years later, Hunts Ketchup is looking to make history with their own take on the iconic ad, which also stars a famous Texan...an East Texan for that matter.
Hunts has released their own "Hey, kid" spot starring Whitehouse native and NFL MVP favorite Patrick Mahomes.
The commercial appeared on the Arrowhead Pride: For Kansas City Chiefs Fans Facebook page over the weekend and has racked up nearly 2,500 shares.
Mahomes led the NFL with 50 touchdown passes and joined Peyton Manning (55 touchdown passes in 2013) and Tom Brady (50 in 2007) as the only quarterbacks with at least 50 touchdown passes in a single season in NFL history. He ranked second in the NFL with a franchise-record 5,097 passing yards and became the seventh different player in NFL history with 5,000+ pass yards in a single season. In total, Mahomes had seven games with at least four touchdown passes this season, the second-most in a single season in league annals. A 2019 Pro Bowl selection, Mahomes led the Chiefs to a 12-4 record and the AFC’s No. 1 seed. With Saturday's win 31-13 win over the Indianapolis Colts, Mahomes became the first Big 12 Conference quarterback to win an NFL playoff game. The stat does not include the Big 12's predecessors, the Big 8 or the Southwest Conference. Also, there have been Big 12 QB's on playoff-winning rosters, but none who have actually played the QB position in the team's postseason win.
Mahomes is up for the NFL FedEx Ground Player of the Year and the fan vote is now open. To cast your vote for Mahomes, click here. The winner will be announced during the NFL Honors on Saturday, February 2, on CBS19.
Mahomes and the Chiefs will go head-to-head with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots for the AFC Championship on Sunday, January 20, at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City. The game will air at 5:40 p.m. on CBS19. Weather experts say, thanks to an arctic blast that is set to hover over Kansas City on game day, it could be the coldest game in Arrowhead Stadium history with temperatures predicted to be 10 degrees or below at kickoff.
The victor will face the winner of the New Orleans Saints and the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LIII on Sunday, February 3, on CBS19.
