HENDERSON, Texas — The Henderson Independent School District Board of Trustees named Dr. Thurston B. Lamb Jr., Chief of Schools at Duncanville ISD, as the lone finalist for superintendent on Tuesday night.

By law, the board must now wait 21 days before voting to officially hire Dr. Lamb to take over as the new superintendent for HISD.

The board selected six applicants from a pool of 78 for an initial interview and then three applicants were invited back for a second interview.

With the second round of interviews completed, a board committee visited Duncanville ISD and reported their thoughts back to trustees.

“We feel like we have a great leader coming to our district. He will make a difference in the lives of all our students,” said board president Jamey Holmes.

The board is scheduled to vote to offer a contract to Dr. Lamb on April 17.

Dr. Lamb has served as Chief of Schools in Duncanville ISD since 2016. He and his wife have four adult children and two grandchildren.

In addition to serving as a Chief of Schools, Dr. Lamb has also been an elementary, middle and high school teacher and assistant principal. He also served as a curriculum and instructional principal, high school principal and executive high school principal.

“I am honored to be named the lone finalist for the superintendent position in Henderson ISD," Dr. Lamb said. "I look forward to being a lion.”
