SAN ANTONIO — For the first time in 2019, the flu is making a big impact in Texas.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, the levels of influenza-like activity were high for the week of Jan. 14 in the Lone Star State. That comes after the first two weeks of January in which the levels were moderate and low, respectively.
17 other states experienced that same threshold of influenza activity, including Alabama, New Mexico and Louisiana. The CDC says it bases its data off the number of patients with flu-like symptoms for that week compared to other periods of time.
That week was also the first time the illness was reported as widespread in Texas, versus being isolated in specific regional areas.
