Gun Shots Reported at Waco HEB, Store Locked Down

Police say an officer shot a suspected shoplifter when he pulled a knife on police.According to the Waco Police Facebook page, police tried to taze the suspect but it had no affect.

UPDATE -- Police say an officer shot a suspected shoplifter when he pulled a knife on police.

According to the Waco Police Facebook page, police tried to taze the suspect but it had no affect. It reads, "our officers were forced to discharge their weapons in defense of their lives."

The suspect was taken to the hospital. No word on the extent of the injuries. No officers were injured.

UPDATE -- A witness who was in the store at the time tells KCEN-HD News Reporter Emily Collins that three shots rang out and police started getting people out of the store.

UPDATE -- Waco Police Sgt. Patrick Swanton posted to Facebook just after 4 p.m. that the scene was secure as were all store employees and customers. The post said "the immediate danger is over."

WACO -- The HEB on N. 19th Street was locked down Tuesday afternoon after reports of shots fired.

The initial calls came a little after 3:30 p.m.

An employee at a nearby restaurant reported seeing at least ten police cars and two ambulances. There was no word as of 4 p.m. whether anyone was shot.
