GILMER — A Gilmer mother received four years deferred adjudication after pleading guilty to leaving her toddlers at home alone in March.

Shaina Workman, a 24-year-old Gilmer woman, was arrested after Upshur County deputies found her two-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy alone in a home at around 4 p.m. Wednesday on the 3600 block of Bob-O-Link Road.

According to the Upshur County Sheriff's Office, deputies were at the home about 45 minutes before Workman arrived.

She told authorities that she and another person had taken a trip to Longview, leaving the children alone at the house. She was charged with two counts of abandoning or endangering a child and pleaded guilty to both on April 10.

Workman will have to meet certain conditions as part of the plea, including 300 community work service hours, a parenting class and a life skills class.
