UPSHUR COUNTY, Texas — A Gilmer woman has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple drug charges in Upshur County.

According to the Upshur County District Attorney's Office, Misti Eve Wooten, 42, entered her plea and waived her right to a jury trial. Judge Dean Fowler delivered Wooten's sentence.

She was previously convicted on the same charges in Kaufman County in 2008.

Evidence in this case revealed on January 6, 2018, Wooten pulled out of the Gilmer Walmart onto Highway 271 and was traveling in the wrong direction resulting in traffic being blocked.

A trooper happened to be passing by and he pulled Wooten over for the traffic offense. When the trooper searched the car, he discovered 22 grams of methamphetamine, loaded needles, small baggies for packaging, digital scales for weighing and nearly $2,300 in cash.

During cross examination by Upshur County District Attorney Billy W. Byrd, Wooten admitted she had been using and also selling methamphetamine for years. Byrd said Wooten could not recall the number of people who became addicted, died as a result of her drug dealing, how many families had been destroyed or children that tested positive for methamphetamine at birth because of her drug dealing.

"We are thankful Judge Fowler heard the evidence and sentenced the defendant to an appropriate time in prison," Byrd said in a statement. "Drug dealing is not and will not be tolerated in this county. Drugs have a very far reaching impact on society and the criminal justice system. This dealer will not be able to spread her poison anymore."
