UPSHUR COUNTY (KYTX) - A Gilmer woman, killed in last week's floods in Upshur County is being laid to rest Saturday.

For the first time, Peggy Hagler's heartbroken loved ones are sharing more about who she was.
The drowning happened near FM 1002.

"She called him when she got stuck and he was on his way to get her but she told him that she was stuck and couldn't move and couldnt get out," said Michelle Hagler, Peggy Hagler's niece.

Last Tuesday morning, 57-year-old, Peggy Hagler, was headed to work when family members tell us she tried to drive her car through flood waters near FM 1002.

Reports say Hagler's car was submerged for 5 minutes before rescue crews arrived.

Family members had trouble believing what happened to the woman they say was still vibrant.

"When I got the news that my aunt passed and she was submerged in water that Tuesday morning on her way to work, I didn't understand why she went through the water," said Michelle Hagler.

When you know her as a person, you knew she was smart, you knew she knew not to go through water," said Michelle Hagler.

Although the loss is hard to understand, family members say they're at peace knowing Hagler is in a better place.

"She's ok...she's resting, she's ok...she's in a good place," said Michelle Hagler.

Peggy Hagler's funeral services are scheduled for Saturday morning in Gilmer.
