The derrick at the East Texas Oil Museum will soon be gone for good.
According to the museum, the oil derrick was damaged in the Kilgore wind storm in March.
The winds caused the structure to move, loosen and break free of wooden boards that make up part of the derrick.
While the derrick is support by a underlying metal structure and ground cables, Kilgore College moving forward with a plan to disassemble the structure out of the interest of safety.
"We at the East Texas Oil Museum and Kilgore College will greatly miss this piece of Kilgore history," Chris Craddock of Kilgore College said. "We must, of course, make the safety of our guests, employees, and volunteers at the Oil Museum a priority."
The museum is planning to use the space for other purposes.
