An East Texas soldier is killed in an ambush attack in Afghanistan. Alejandro Granado, III of Tatum was serving in the army.

The family told CBS19 the news has not sunk in yet. No one was prepared, except they said Alejandro. When he left, told his family he had a bad feeling about this mission.

Family and friends of Sergeant First Class Alejandro Granado, call him Alex.

A fellow Army Sergeant did his best to tell Alex's spanish-speaking parents their son was killed in an ambush in Afghanistan Sunday morning, but just the knock on the door was telling enough.

A friend translated for his father, also named Alejandro, "They went to the door and they saw the sergeant and they said it's nothing good."

Alex was born in Mexico and his family to moved to East Texas when he was ten. Growing up he wanted to be in the Army, and served 22 years. He was in special forces and served in Desert Storm, but this last mission was different.

"He told everybody he didn't expect to come back. He said it was just a feeling he had he wasn't going to come back," Alex sister Cynthia explained.

But Alex's warning still could not prepare his mother for what was to come, a struggle she can only deal with surrounded by family.

Rosalinda explained she has so much emotion, but her feelings are difficult to translate. The rest of his family is in a state of disbelief.

"He's been gone a lot of times, and always come back...I don't know," said Cynthia.

All they know for sure, is Alex loved fighting for America, the country that gave him opportunity.

Alex was also a father of three ranging from 19 to 23, and they were in Delaware to see Alex's casket being taken to an air base. His body will then be transported to Tatum.

Funeral arrangements are being made at Jimerson-Lipsey Funeral Home in Carthage.

The family plans to have a public memorial service. We will update you with the details when we have them.
