DISTRICT ATTORNEY: Longview fatal shootings occurred in front of children; suspect's bond set at $2M

Police say witnesses were able to help authorities identify Troy James Rider, Jr., 43, of Longview, as the alleged shooter. The LPD believes domestic violence may have been a factor in the murders.

LONGVIEW, Texas — Gregg County District Attorney Tom Watson says bond for the suspect in a Tuesday morning double murder in Longview has been set at $2 million.

"Today, I was on a crime scene at 1:30 a.m.," Gregg County District Attorney Tom Watson said in a statement. "[It was] a terrible crime scene with two women executed...executed in the presence of children! In court, the suspect would not turn to face me or even look at me. I asked for a $2 million bond...$1 million for each life taken. This is not then end of the story! There will be JUSTICE!!!!"

According to the LPD, officers were called to a home in the 1700 block of Loring Lane, off H.G. Mosley Parkway, around 12:40 a.m., Tuesday.

When officials arrived on scene, they discovered the bodies of Lori Susan Perez, 58, and Kristy Nicole Perez, 38. Police did not specify whether the women were related.

Gregg County Justice of the Peace Precinct 2 Tim Bryan tells CBS19 he ordered the bodies be sent to Dallas for autopsy.

Police say witnesses were able to help authorities identify Troy James Rider, Jr., 43, of Longview, as the alleged shooter. The LPD believes domestic violence may have been a factor in the murders.

According to the LPD, Rider was taken into custody at a nearby apartment complex. Police say the suspect will likely be charged with capital murder.

Rider was arraigned in a Gregg County courtroom Tuesday afternoon.

The DA's offices is assisting Longview police with the investigation.
