RUSK COUNTY, Texas — A Rusk County woman was arrested Sunday after she was found in the passenger seat of a vehicle driven by a child.
Sheriff Johnwayne Valdez said deputies initated a traffic stop on County Road 201 for reckless driving. A 12-year-old child was found to be operating the vehicle, according to the Rusk County Sheriff's Office. RCSO said child was seated atop a cushion and jacket to see over the steering wheel.
The passenger, identified Holly Riehl, 39, of Henderson, was arrested at the scene. An investigation from RCSO found open alcohol in Riehl's possession. During the investigation, deputies observed Riehl attempting to discard a plastic bag containing a white powder that later tested positive for cocaine.
Rusk County Child Protective Services were notified and the child was released at the scene to a family member.
Riehl has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, endangering a child and tampering with physical evidence. She is currently in Rusk County Jail on bonds totaling $40,500.
