Master Sergeant Gene Bass passed away Friday after a shooting on Chesapeake Bay Drive in Fort Worth.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Saturday, Crowley ISD confirmed the victim in a fatal Fort Worth shooting was Master Sergeant Gene Bass.

The district made the announcement in an email to North Crowley High School families, where MSGT Bass worked as a JROTC instructor.

"This is an incredibly sad time for all of us, especially those who knew MSGT Bass as an instructor and friend." the announcement read.

MSGT Bass was a beloved staff member at NCHS, which can be seen in this video released by the district, highlighting his dedication to students in the JROTC program.

"He was an outstanding educator and colleague,"  a statement from Crowley ISD said. "...and he touched the lives of countless students and staff.

MSGT Bass was killed Friday in a shooting that happened around 2:25 p.m. in the 4400 block of Chesapeake Bay Drive in Fort Worth. Fort Worth PD said officers found him dead in a front yard with apparent gunshot wounds to his upper body.

Medical personnel attempted life-saving measures, but were unsuccessful, police said Friday.

Fort Worth police said in an update Saturday that the suspect, who is a family member of the shooting victim, was arrested without incident at a residence in Valdosta, Ga. by the Lowndes County Sheriff's Office.

According to FWPD, the suspect reportedly drove up to the home and fired multiple shots at the victim before driving away.

Lowndes County jail records show Xavier Bass was booked on Saturday with "hold for Tarrant Co. TX" listed as his charge.
