3 people in custody after standoff situation in Cherokee County

The SWAT team was called to assist in the situation after an individual barricaded himself in a rear bedroom with firearms.

CHEROKEE COUNTY, Texas — Three people were arrested after a search warrant turned into a standoff situation in Cherokee County.

Sheriff Brent Dickson with Cherokee County said a search warrant issued and executed by the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and the Jacksonville Police Department on CR 4126 at around 5:30 p.m. The search warrant was issued for stolen property in the area.

The SWAT team was called to assist in the situation at 5:48 p.m. after an individual barricaded himself in a rear bedroom with firearms, officials said. 

The sheriff's office the man barricaded in the bedroom was Lionnel Charles, 34, from Jacksonville. Charles had numerous warrants out for his arrest and he is the lead suspect in several burglaries, according to officials.  

After a four-hour standoff and no communication with negotiators, the SWAT team entered the mobile home and arrested Charles.
