1 arrested in connection with August convenience store robbery in Jasper County

Police say video and evidence found in the vehicle confirmed the passenger, Lorenzo Ashton Thomas, 24, was the same person who robbed the store, police said.

JASPER COUNTY, Texas — One person was arrested after robbing a convenience store with a gun this summer in Jasper County.

According to the Jasper Police Department, officers responded to reports of a robbery at the Jasper Jiffy Market convenience store, located at 2209 Highway 63 West on Aug. 22, around 9 p.m. 

The suspect wearing all black and a COVID-19 mask. Police were told the suspect fled into a wooded area behind the store towards Prospect Road.

Jasper Police and Jasper County deputies set up a perimeter around the area to search for the suspect. During a traffic stop, an officer found a passenger in a vehicle who matched the suspect's description.

Surveillance video and evidence found in the vehicle identified the suspect as Lorenzo Ashton Thomas, 24, police said. He was then charged with aggravated robbery.

Police were able to recover the stolen cash. Officials said the driver of the car during the traffic stop has not been charged.
