NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, Texas — The Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office arrested a man suspected in two drive-by shootings last month.
Police arrested Bryan Martinez, 19, of Nacogdoches for an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. While Martinez was not arrested for the drive-by shootings, he is the prime suspect, according to the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office.
According to the NCSO, the first shooting happened on Highway 7 East. One person was grazed by a bullet while lying in his bedroom.
The second shooting happened on County Road 522. There was no one injured in that shooting.
Around the same as the shootings on Highway 7 and County Road 522, the sheriff's office says there were two other drive-by shootings within the city of Nacogdoches. Martinez is considered a suspect in those shootings as well.
The NCSO believes the shootings are gang related.
In response, Sheriff Jason Bridges executed an operation centered on areas of known gang activity that led to the arrests of eight suspects, including Martinez.
According to the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office, Martinez was arrested on County Road 522 while riding in the passenger seat of a Lincoln.
The deputies found a loaded 9 mm pistol in Martinez's waistband, according to the NCSO. The pistol and ammunition matched the caliber used in the drive-by shootings in the county.
Martinez is charged with unlawful carrying a weapon and failure to identify. He also faces his previous charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The Nacogdoches Sheriff's Office expects Martinez to face additional charges.
