Lufkin man sentenced to over 7 years for drug trafficking, firearms violations

Tyson Spencer, 48, pleaded guilty on Feb. 14, 2022 to possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana and possession of a firearm as a felon.

ANGELINA COUNTY, Texas — A man was sentenced to 90 months to federal prison for drug trafficking and firearms violation Tuesday in Angelina County

Tyson Spencer, 48, pleaded guilty on Feb. 14, 2022 to possession with intent to distribute synthetic marijuana and possession of a firearm as a felon.

According to evidence presented in court, Lufkin police officers responded to a residential theft where they encountered Spencer. Spencer matched the description of the suspect and the officers searched him.

The officials said they discovered a firearm and a gallon-sized bag containing marijuana.  

According to officials, Spencer admitted to being a convicted felon with a prior conviction of murder.

Spencer's case was part of a joint federal, state and local Project Sager Neighborhoods Program. PSN is an evidence-based program proven to be effective at reducing violent crime.
