ANDERSON COUNTY, Texas — A 45-year-old woman was indicted in Anderson County for continuous sexual abuse of a young child.
The Palestine Herald-Press reports Melissa Singer was an elementary school teacher for Grapeland ISD.
According to the Herald-Press, Singer was arrested after allegations made to the Anderson County Sheriff's Office in October of 2018. She has since bonded out.
The newspaper says Singer was originally suspended with pay when she was arrested. Later, the Grapeland ISD board voted not to renew her contract with the district.
The Anderson County Sheriff's Office told the Palestine Herald-Press that the alleged abuse happened in the Slocum area, but did not say if the victim was a family member or student of Singer.
Singer faces 25 years-to-life if convicted.
