Former Harrison County deputy indicted for allegedly striking inmate

HARRISON COUNTY, Texas — A former Harrison County deputy was arrested after being indicted for allegedly striking an inmate in his custody.

The incident happened in November of 2018.

According to the Harrison County District Attorney's Office, Deputy Charles "Chase" Dotson allegedly hit a prisoner in the face and on his head. The prisoner, Charles Collins, was in custody at the Harrison County Jail Annex.

Collins did not originally file a complaint. However, administrators with the Harrison County Sheriff's Office learned of the alleged incident and contacted the Texas Rangers to investigate what happened.

Following the investigation, Dotson was indicted by a grand jury for official oppression. Dotson faces one year in county jail and a fine of $4,000.
