POLICE: East Texas convicted sex offender arrested after driving into oncoming traffic holding child, drill

Courtland Dewayne Linsday, 34, has been charged with evading arrest, endangerment of a child and possession of marijuana following his arrest Tuesday.

TYLER, Texas — A Smith County convicted sex offender is in custody after he was reportedly driving on the wrong side of the road while holding a child and a drill Tuesday night.

Courtland Dewayne Lindsay, 34, has been charged with evading arrest, endangerment of a child and possession of marijuana following his arrest Tuesday. 

Andy Erbaugh, spokesperson for the Tyler Police Department, said they responded to a call around 8 p.m. Tuesday about a car driving on the wrong side of the road on Erwin Street in Tyler. Witnesses reported Lindsay was holding a child in his lap as well as a drill. Erbaugh said witnesses also reported hearing Lindsay make statements threatening to hurt the child.

Lindsay was stopped on Loop 323 and Hwy. 271 and taken into custody. He is currently in Smith County Jail on bonds totaling $100,500.
