OFFICIALS: 2 arrested in Palestine for assault after pursuit, guns found

Both have been charged with possession of prohibited weapons, theft of a firearm and unlawful carrying weapons.

PALESTINE, Texas — Palestine Police arrested two individuals after allegedly leading officers in a high-speed chase following an assault.

On 11:37 p.m. on Monday, while investigating calls about shots fired, Palestine P.D responded to the 100 block of Crockett Rd. about an assault in progress. A victim reported being struck in the head as he was attempting to help two individuals with a flat tire. The victim reported the suspects left the scene in a white pickup truck.

Officers saw a white GMC pickup truck with a flate tire travelling on E. Park Ave. near Crockett. Officers stopped the vehicle and attempted to make contact with the driver and passenger. Palestine P.D said the driver sped away in the vehicle and continued to evade law enforcement for nearly 4 miles.

The truck then crashed on the intersection of Carolina and Conway. The driver, later identified as Kevin Macnera, 18, of Palestine, ran away from the crash. The passenger, Sedonta Lyles, 19, of Palestine, was ejected during the crash and treated by EMS at the scene. Lyles was transported to the PRMC ER, where he was treated and released.

Macnera was detained a short time later.

Palestine P.D said officers found a Glock handgun in the driver compartment of the truck which was altered with an automatic switch and reported to be stolen. An AR-15-style pistol was found in the passenger compartment. Spent shell casings matching the caliber of the AR pistol were found in Lyle's possession.

Both Lyles and Mancera were transported to the Anderson County Jail. Both have been charged with possession of prohibited weapons, theft of a firearm and unlawful carrying weapons.

Mancera was additionally charged with evading arrest detention with a vehicle.

The investigation is ongoing, and additional charges are expected. CBS19 will update this article as we learn more.
