MOUNT ENTERPRISE (KYTX) "Jennifer, this school district was established as part of the Rosenwald initiative in the 1920's. An initiative that provided African Americans with a quality education - a part of history the school's former students refuse to let vanish."

This room filled with people, who used to fill up this building, the now ragged Concord School near Mount Enterprise. The school was shutdown and integrated with Henderson ISD in 1971. But students like Stella McClendon say the school can't be forgotten.

"I'm saddened and I wish I had the funds to rebuild it"

The school's alumni are currently working towards raising money to build a museum and repair the school. The museum will highlight the importance of the Rosenwald Schools in the lives of African American's in East Texas. Alpheus Moss is with the Concord High School Alumni Association. He says the group bought the school in 2008, he says it means a lot to him.

"The building is in very bad shape, but it's important to maintain the history"

"The group says to preserve the history, the Alumni Association will depend on donations and fund raisers to build the museum. "
