Longview Splash Pad reopen following upgrades

The park has more pavilions, water spouts and plenty of room for kids to play.

TYLER, Texas — The Jack Mann Splash Pad in Longview is back open after being closed several days for upgrades.

Now the park has more pavilions, water spouts and plenty of room for kids to play.

“It looks so much better and things like this is really what brings people to Longview," Longview resident Maci Welch said. "And helps with economic development and the kids growing and making Longview a place that people want to be.”

This is just one of the park's first completed projects that were proposed in the 2018 bond election.

“So over the time period of the bond, over those several years to come, some of the improvements that will come here to Leer Park include, some additional fields, some replacement of our soccer fields,” Longview Public Information Officer, Shawn Hara, said. “We’re adding Astroturf so it can be able to be utilized more of the year especially for tournaments and league play and those kinds of things. They’re going be constructing some trail system here, throughout Leer Park.”

Neighborhood parks in the area will also be getting upgrades. City officials say they will be asking for the public’s input on those projects.

“We’re actually going to be having a series of community meetings for some of those neighborhood parks to say, “here’s what we thinking about as some improvements,” and get some feedback from that neighborhood or that area,” Hara said.

The Jack Mann Splash Pad is open Tuesday through Thursday from 9:30 a.m to 8:30 p.m.
