LONGVIEW, Texas — A Longview police officer, who underwent open heart surgery in October, has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer.

Officer Larry Solomon has worked as an officer in Longview for seven years. Solomon has been a patrol officer and field training officer. Solomon is currently part of the K-9 team with his K-9 officer Jiro.

In addition to being an officer, Solomon is a Marine.

Following his surgery, physicians found a mass located near his heart and test results showed Solomon has angiosarcoma. The police department said he's already started treatment to fight this disease.

In a message to the entire police department, Solomon said in part, “I’m never out of the fight and will continue to fight this thing. Thank you for all that you do! Enjoy your lives, be kind to people, and make memories with your family and loved ones.”

Longview police said in a Facebook post that the agency will be in the fight with Solomon and his family. Longview PD is working on a way for people to support Solomon and his family as he receives treatment.
