LONGVIEW, Texas — The city of Longview is trying to make spring break as memorable as they can for kids. On Wednesday, the community hosted their third annual kite festival, where hundreds of kites took to the sky.
Even in its third year, the kite festival has turned into a cherished tradition for families to gather and enjoy.
Among them are the Anders family, who make it a point to attend every year. Isaac Anders and his family love flying kites at home, so for them, it was another opportunity to enjoy the day outdoors.
"We know it's going to be a great time. We know the food trucks are here. We know you got all sorts of activities like the bouncy house over here. And it's just a great way to spend a day in town when you're in town on spring break with the family," Anders said.
Folks who stopped by the kite festival didn’t have to worry about buying a kite since the city of Longview provided plenty.
"We have 1,500 kites to give away to children in our community to be able to come out and learn to fly kites," Longview Parks and Recreation Director John Albertson said.
Albertson added the city continues to host these events because they bring joy to the community.
"It just brings a lot of happiness to our citizens, our families and our community and the children. And that's the biggest thing I think that we all look forward to seeing through our events," Albertson said.
The city says the community feedback has been nothing but positive, with many expressing their appreciation for the opportunity to stay active in Longview parks.
"One of the biggest feedbacks is we want to be active in your facilities. This type of event is exactly I was trying to reach out to do that," Albertson said.
