VAN, Texas — "Pretty much, probably the best game I've ever played in my life," said Van senior running back Austin Moffatt.
First round of the playoffs -- pretty good time for Van's Austin Moffatt to have the best game of his life, huh? The senior racked up over 200 rushing yards and a touchdown, and hauled in two catches for scores in Van's win over Athens.
"The line helped me out a lot," Austin said. "I didn't have 200 yards by myself, it was pretty much a team, everybody blocking up front, everyone did well. And then Jaxon, he got the ball to me whenever we were throwing or passing the ball."
Jaxon and Austin Moffatt really have this impressive, sort of unspoken, connection. Maybe that's because they are twins, and they're coached by their dad.
"I never dreamed that they would be a quarterback and a running back sharing the backfield like they are," Coach Jared Moffat said. "To have the year that they've had, cause they've played well all year long. Just watching both those guys grow and develop, and chase their dreams of high school football here in Van, Texas, has really been a lot of fun."
The only thing better than playing with a brother is winning with a brother, especially when they have been training for this moment for years.
"It's like we're playing when we're 10 years in the backyard or something. We're always messing with each other, be like 'hey you sure that's right? I don't know if that's right,' like, 'hey, we got it, c'mon now,'" Austin said.
"They're both real strong-willed now, and they've got plenty of ideas, trust me. But it's, again, how unique is that, your twin brother in the backfield together," Jared said.
The brothers have already scored Van a first round playoff win, and there's no reason to think they'll stop here.
"And a lot of people could've just stepped in like, 'hey, we're done,' but here at Van we play all four quarters. And it helps out really well," Austin said.
