RUSK COUNTY, Texas — Following released body cam footage, the brother of the man shot by a Rusk County deputy in 2022 is speaking out.
"I mean he took my best friend," Doug Randall, older brother of Timothy Michael Randall, said.
Two years after Michael's death, Doug Randall is still dealing with the pain.
"He was funny, he was kind, he was smart," Doug Randall said.
After seeing the newly released video of his brother's last moments, Doug Randall said it reopens those wounds.
"There aren’t words to really describe it. To watch something like that, I watched my brother die," Doug Randall said.
The dashcam video is a key piece of evidence in the Randall's federal lawsuit. The family alleges that Sgt. Shane Iverson violated Michael's constitutional rights the night of the incident.
"Why go to pull his arm back behind his, you know, back and tell him to quit resisting after you literally just shoved your hand in his pants and came up with what you know. I mean, that was a little invasive," Doug Randall said.
Doug Randall said the point of the lawsuit is for his family to hold law enforcement accountable and ensure a situation like this one never happens again.
"I said at his funeral that if we stop saying his name it really dies. It’s nice that everyone has not stopped saying his name. I mean that is the biggest goal -- getting true justice," Doug Randall said.
