DOCUMENTS: Tyler father threatened mother of his children with firearm before taking his kids

Police said Chase Lee took his daughters after committing an aggravated assault on their mother. The girls were found safe after an Amber Alert was issued.

TYLER, Texas — Arrest documents show a Tyler father accused of abducting his two daughters and sparking an Amber Alert pointed a firearm at the children's mother before taking the kids.

Chase Lee, 33, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, according to Smith County Jail records. He remains jailed on a $400,000 bond. 

Police said Lee took the young girls from a Tyler residence after assaulting the children’s mother Tuesday night. An Amber Alert was issued and the girls were later found safe, while Lee was detained. Police said the mother is OK.

According to an arrest affidavit, the woman said Lee was in her apartment when she arrived home from work Tuesday evening. He then told the children to go out to his truck and they went outside. After that, Lee shut the door and pointed a firearm at her. 

She told police that she was afraid for her life. He pulled the trigger, but the gun did not fire. She ran out of the home but Lee followed her. At one point, they fought over the gun but Lee overpowered her. He pull the trigger once more but it didn't fire again, the affidavit said. 

She was able to get away, and then she heard Lee's truck start up and leave the area. She was able to call 911, the document explained. 

The Amber Alert was issued for the missing girls. Lee was found and detained, and the children were found unharmed, police said. 

In an interview with police, Lee admitted to the alleged assault, the affidavit read.
