ALTO (KYTX) - Kathy Wilton grew up in this home right outside of Alto. "This is just something you can't comprehend, the damage to the trees... it looks as if it's a war zone," she said.
Wilton's 94-year-old mother lived here until Friday night, when an EF2 tornado forced her out.
"Probably this was the first to go," Wilton said, pointing at the back of the house. "The wind was so strong that it blew winds and leaves to the other side of the house."
The house also suffered water damage.
"You'd step on it and water would bubble up around your feet," she said.
Wilton is not alone. Several tornadoes ripped through the region over the weekend leaving many in the same position.
In Smith County, another EF2 tornado left a number of down trees in it's path. Some residents were trapped in their homes until help could arrive.
Parts of Wood County were also devastated, particularly areas around Lake Hawkins and Holly Lake ranch. Even the Ozarka water plant saw roof and water damage.
As for Wilton, she said the help from the Alto community has gotten her through.
"You get teary eyed and say, thank you for helping. They're honest genuine, wonderful people," said Wilton.
