Bishop T.K. Gorman assistant basketball coach placed on leave following arrest for burglary with intent to commit sex offense

TYLER, Texas — A Bishop Thomas K. Gorman Catholic School assistant basketball coach is in jail after being arrested on a warrant for burglary of a habitation with intent to commit sexual offense. 

Ja'Kael Lockett, 24, is listed on Gorman's website as an assistant basketball coach. He was arrested by University of Texas at Tyler police and booked into the Smith County Jail on Monday. He is being held on a $250,000 bond. 

The school released a statement saying Lockett "has been placed on leave pending the outcome of the case and is not permitted to have contact with students."

School administration says there is no indication of any improper conduct occurring on campus or with students.

The UT Tyler Police Department also released a statement on Lockett's arrest Tuesday afternoon that noted he was arrested after an investigation was conducted of a "reported illegal entry to a student's campus residence."

"The University of Texas at Tyler Police conducted an investigation after a reported illegal entry to a student’s campus residence on Sunday morning. After consulting with the Smith County District Attorney’s office, a warrant was issued for the suspect’s arrest, and the suspect was arrested yesterday. "
