The National Weather Service confirms at least one EF1 tornado struck Harrison County late Sunday morning.
A damage survey found a tornado track that began about 10 miles northeast of Beckville in the Gill Community. The tornado continued along the northeasterly path crossing Interstate 20 into Eastern Marshall. The tornado lifted approximately six miles northeast of Marshall.
Emergency workers reported significant damage in the Marshall area Sunday after a major storm rolled through the area.
Marshall fire and EMS workers said they saw a funnel cloud touch down near F.M. 2625 and Highway 59. They reported damage to the National Weather Service including trees on homes north of Marshall on Highway 43 and trees down throughout the area.
"Damage assessment teams noted damaged houses from trees and debris from the area of Cox road continuing across Marshall causing damage in the Jasper Heights area," Marshall Fire Chief Reggie Cooper told KMHT radio. "There was noted damage at the golf course and some houses in the area. There is damage at and near airport park causing power outage issues for a potentially moderate size area of residents."
Power has been restored to all 491 customers in Harrison County, 789 customers in Gregg county and 303 homes in Smith County who were without power earlier Sunday.No injuries were reported.
