Two Longview men who have been indicted on racing and manslaughter charges have had their trial dates rescheduled.
According to the 124th District Court in Gregg County, Chad Malone, 20, of Longview, is expected to enter a guilty plea. He waived his right to a jury trial during a court appearance on Tuesday and is scheduled to be sentenced by a jury on February 18, 2019, in the court of Judge Alfonso Charles.
Davin Davis, 21, of Hallsville, has had his trial date moved to March 18, 2019, also in the court of Judge Charles.
Both men were charged with the following:
- Manslaughter (2)
- Racing on a highway causing serious bodily injury (3)
- Aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury
The charges stem from a September 2017 wreck that killed two people.
According to the officials, on Friday, September 22, 2017, around 8:30 p.m., police were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash in the 300 block of North Eastman Road (U.S. 259).
The LPD says Malone's car collided with a pickup truck driven by Christina Wilson, of Harleton. Wilson was ejected from her truck and taken to a local hospital.
Malone was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Malone's passengers, Rylee Malone, 17, and Meshebia Johnson, 17, died as a result of the crash.
Police concluded Malone and Davis were racing when the collision occurred.
