HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas — It was a sad Valentine’s Day for two men who are calling the "Hillhouse Hotel" home, at least for now.
According to Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse, Thursday traffic stops on opposite ends of the county ended in the arrest of two men.
Sheriff Hillhouse says Donald W. Cooper, 49, was wanted for unauthorized use of a motor vehicle in Dallas and was stopped by a deputy on Peachtree Road in Mabank.
The 9 a.m. arrest was triggered when the deputy noticed the vehicle he was driving was in violation of several laws, including an expired registration sticker, covered rear license plate and broken taillight.
According to Sheriff Hillhouse, Cooper did not have a driver’s license and when the deputy searched his vehicle, she found a glass pipe with a clear, crystal-like substance believed to be methamphetamine.
He was arrested and taken to the Henderson County Jail for his outstanding warrant and possession of a controlled substance.
Around 10 p.m., Anthony Dale Collard, 48, of Chandler, was pulled over by a deputy as he turned onto Farm-to-Market Road 315 in Chandler. Sheriff Hillhouse says the headlight on his vehicle was not working and Collard's record showed he had recently been found with narcotics.
Collard told the deputy there were no illegal drugs in his car, but a search uncovered a black sock inside the sunroof. Inside the sock was a glass pipe and a clear baggie containing meth, Sheriff Hillhouse says.
Collard was arrested for possession booked into the county jail.
