TYLER, Texas — As Thanksgiving approaches, more people are getting hired across East Texas.

Taberah Anderson was among 42 job seekers who came out to People Ready this week looking for work.

Anderson said, “You get lifted up, and your money goes up. That's the big thing, getting the bag.”

People Ready, formerly known as Labor Ready, serves as the middle-man between employers and their next hire.

Branch manager Antonio Martinez said client traffic is picking up quickly.

“We're just getting a lot of applicants in. We've got an influx of jobs coming through our clients, especially with the holiday season coming up," he said

The holiday season is bulking up across the country. The U.S. Department of Labor reports jobless claims dropped 4 percent this past week.

Martinez said, “This is an employee market right now so there's a lot of jobs and not a lot of people.”

He also said there's an added need for employees during the holiday season. Companies that would call him needing 3-5 employees now need up to 20 at a time.

To fill this need, he suggests companies up their pay. Anderson agrees.

She explained, “During the holidays, I got eight grandbabies. I'm GG, so I need that extra pay you know what I'm saying? To make sure the babies are happy and they run around the Christmas tree and say ‘look what GG got me.’ It just warms my heart so I try to work extra hard through the holidays to get that bread up.”

People Ready has one more hiring event this month. It’s Wednesday, November 10 from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at 1418 West Gentry Parkway.
