Businesses rebound from the pandemic at the East Texas State Fair

The fair will run through October 3.

TYLER, Texas — The East Texas State Fair is a classic.

“We’ve been coming to the fair since we’ve all been born," one fairgoer said,

If you can fry it and put it on a stick, it’s probably at the fair.

Every year you’ll find the rides, crowds and food. This year at the fair, you’ll also find, Ruby's, a restaurant trying to reclaim what the pandemic took from them

“We are blessed that we got the opportunity to be here," said Dulce Moreno with the restaurant. "It was kind of rough because we were only doing to go orders when the pandemic was going on."

She said it was especially rough when the restaurant couldn’t open their doors and had to serve to-go orders only. Since they were able to reopen, business has been steady with $7,000-sale days. Moreno said they’re hoping to keep that momentum at the fair.

If you’re planning on coming out, Tyler Police Department said keep in mind traffic might get tricky over the next week.

“What we want to do is make sure everybody has patience because the fair's a big thing but tonight is senior citizen night I believe so it's not as full as another weekend but it's still going to be busy.”

Andy Erbaugh with the department also reminded residents to only cross at designated crosswalks as those are the only places officers will be able to help you.
