Apple plans multimillion-dollar renovation to old Austin campus as employees move in to new space

The original Apple campus is down the road from its new campus, which Apple started building in 2019.

AUSTIN, Texas — Apple is planning a multimillion-dollar facelift to its original Austin campus.

New preliminary filings with the state show the $4.5 million project will include more lab and office space, along with more meeting rooms.

The original Apple campus on West Parmer Lane is just down the road from its new campus, which Apple started building in 2019.

According to the Austin Business Journal, employees have already started moving into their new campus, but Apple intends to continue using its original location.

Earlier this year, Apple confirmed to KVUE that it's shutting down a team of 121 people in San Diego focused on artificial intelligence. The employees were asked to relocate to Austin by the end of February or be terminated on April 26.

Apple said it would offer relocation stipends to those workers and released the following statement to KVUE:

"We're bringing our data operations annotations teams in the U.S. together at our campus in Austin, where a majority of the team is already based. Everyone currently employed will have the opportunity to continue their role with Apple in Austin. We are deeply committed to San Diego where we have grown significantly, and are continuing to hire as we expand our world-class engineering teams."
