LONGVIEW, Texas — The Longview community has been wishing for a popular grocery store to open and it's finally becoming a reality.
Over the last several years, Brookshire's has purchased several pieces of land in north Longview. A new Fresh by Brookshire's is expected to be built on a plot of land on the corner of North Fourth Street and US Highway 259.
Longview City Councilman Wray Wade said acquiring the location is what takes the longest.
"Our Longview Economic Development Corporation has been working on this deal for a while," Wade said.
This location is next to UT Tyler in Longview and medical offices.
"We were able to with this deal (by having a) great relationship between private entities and public entities to make this happen," Wade said.
This is the third Fresh location within the Brookshire Grocery Co. and it has already sparked some excitement in the community.
"Everyone's excited about this and as you've seen on social media, we've had tons of people to comment on it," Wade said.
The community has flooded social media with positive feedback since the announcement.
"We're all fortunate that we're going to be able to continue to improve the quality of life for everyone here in Longview," Wade said.
At this moment, there is no set timeline for when construction will begin. CBS19 will update this article with more information as it becomes available.
