LONGVIEW, Texas — As a Texas wastewater treatment technician, Louis Booth didn’t watch the 2019 film “Dark Waters” solely for entertainment.
The movie tells the story of attorney Robert Bilott, who sued the DuPont corporation on behalf of West Virginia residents who believed they were sickened by exposure to the company’s chemicals — specifically, perfluorooctanoic acid, or PFOA. That compound was used to make Teflon until 2013.
“As soon as we watched that movie ‘Dark Waters,’ my wife threw out all of our Teflon pans, and we went and bought copper pans,” said Booth, who's with the Texas Rural Water Association.
