WHITEHOUSE, Texas — An unregistered truck caused a stir in the community after someone in the vehicle threw several controversial items, including a bottle of alcohol, to the crowd watching the Christmas parade in Whitehouse last Saturday.
A concerned dad posted a photo on Facebook after the parade of a miniature liquor bottle that he claims was thrown from a vehicle during the event and he took it away from his child. It wasn’t just liquor though, others commented car fresheners, lighters, and even a bottle of lotion were thrown out of the vehicle.
Whitehouse native and local business owner Julia Bradshaw’s 11-year-old son attended the parade, and she said she's "very shocked and disappointed" about what happened.
"Because of the amount of children and families, and this is a holiday event, this is something that’s supposed to be safe for you to go to with your family, and for that to happen was just really shocking and unfortunate," Bradshaw said.
Other people have had similar reactions across social media.
In light of the incident, the Whitehouse Area Chamber of Commerce said in a statement the truck that was throwing the bottles was not a registered or approved entry in the parade.
The chamber also said they have filed a complaint with the police department as soon as they learned about the incident. Finally, they apologized for what was handed out by the truck and thanked parade spectators for their support and understanding.
Community members like Bradshaw said there still questions for those who threw the items out of the truck.
"What their motive would be, what’s going on in their life that would make them want to do something like this," Bradshaw said.
As of Monday evening, there are no updates from the police department or the complaint the chamber filed regarding the incident.
