EAST TEXAS PROFESSIONAL CREDIT UNION PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Chapel Hill's Demetrius Brisbon

After Brisbon's four touchdowns last week against Gilmer, anyone can see how he's contributed to Chapel Hill's offensive success.

CHAPEL HILL, Texas — Being the star quarterback at an East Texas high school can be pretty difficult. Now imagine adding defensive responsibilities on top of that. Well,  that's stepping into the mindset of Chapel Hill's Demetrius Brisbon.

"Oh yeah, I know it's been real hard. We've just been working, just been working, trying to get better every day, and taking it one step at a time," Brisbon said.

The reason the Baylor commit is seeing time on defense is because the Bears are actually scouting him to play safety! So Head Coach Jeff Riordan is making sure that Brisbon is capable of getting anything done on the field.

"You know he also lines up at receiver. We try to throw him the ball, and he's also a kick returner, punt returner for us. So I enjoy coaching him every day, and you know he's very, very valuable to what we do and our success the last four years," Riordan said.

After Brisbon's four touchdowns last week against Gilmer, anyone can see how he's contributed to Chapel Hill's offensive success, but adding the game winning interception too? That's still a bit new to Brisbon, who said he's still learning on that side of the ball.

"I mean defensively I don't really think I'm just all that. There's still a whole lotta work we need to do, whole lotta work for me to do, so I'm still learning," Brisbon said.

Aside from what he does on offense and defense, the senior also wants to step up his leadership game this season.

"I just want to be more vocal, be more of a leader around all the boys," Brisbon said.

Riordan has seen the effort, and he applauds his guy for what he's brought to the locker room for a team with deep playoff run expectations.

"He's gotten a lot better at that, diagnosing the team chemistry and the team culture, and helping build that instead of bringing it down," Riordan said.
