TYLER, Texas — One of East Texas’s own independent artists has been nominated for an award at this October’s Josie Music Awards in Nashville.
"Well I’m originally from East Texas, and I’ve grown up here, my family is from here," singer/songwriter Gary Patrick said.
Since he was 21 years old, he’s been a professional musician. His life’s work has taken him from Tyler, to Southern California, to Las Vegas, and now, Patrick has been nominated for Artist of the Year in the Folk/Americana category at the Josie Music Awards in Nashville. He and his family will be taking a trip to the Grand Ole’ Opry House in October. But, that’s not all.
"You have been selected as one of the performers at our pre-party concert bash, and at the CMA theater at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, the legendary," Tina and Josie Passantino from the Josie Music Awards said over the phone to Patrick.
Gary just learned that not only could he win an award in Nashville, but he’s going to be performing at the Country Music Hall of Fame alongside other country legends ahead of the show. It’s an opportunity that has Patrick over the moon with excitement, and yet he took the moments directly after finding out to thank his support system.
"It’s very special, and it’s special for them too. Because they’ve seen years and years of struggle, and growth, and this is just, what a reward. Thank you," Patrick said.
Gary’s wife Kara has seen the ups and downs of Patrick’s long career, and she too was overcome with excitement.
"You cannot imagine. He works so hard, tirelessly, day and night on his craft and on his music, and I am so incredibly proud. It’s really hard not to cry for him I’m so excited," Kara Patrick said.
For a working musician that’s spent more than 30 years grinding away to get his voice out there, this was a moment that he and his family will remember forever.
"This is going to go on TV I can’t believe that," Patrick said. "Wow um this is amazing. I can’t believe it. Thank you."
