ALTO, Texas — "When you're up 55 nothing on a Friday night it just... it feels amazing, and I love that feeling," said Alto quarterback Camdyn Almond.
The sophomore QB didn't experience any nights on top last year in the Yellowjackets 0-10 season, so this year's 3-0 start has certainly been refreshing.
"Scoring on the first drive and continuously scoring and not being stopped it just, it feels great. We had a big offseason, and that is showing obviously, and I think that has a lot to do with it," said Almond.
Almond has had to step up this season in more ways than one, being a sophomore QB on a now winning team, but his squad of mostly upperclassmen has embraced him.
"You know our offensive line, we call them the boss hogs, and they take a lot of pride in taking care of Camdyn, and so I just feel lie they've taken well to him, they want to support Camdyn and see him do well," said Alto head coach Brock Grigsby.
Almond was a perfect 10-10 passing last week with five total touchdowns against Hull-Daisetta, but he too credits his teammates for putting him in a position to succeed.
"The team is amazing. The offensive line is amazing, I think I've yet to be sacked this year. Our receivers are outstanding, obviously I can't do my job if they don't catch the ball," said Almond.
Almond still has two more years at the varsity level, but after that he says he wants to take his game to the college level. Coach Grigsby says he's got all the tools to get it done.
"Watched the way that he bought in and the amount of time and effort he's put into this to be able to see this success kind of early in the season, now he can look at it and say 'man that was for somehing', you know. So he's a kid that says he wants to play at the next level, I think that he's gonna have every opportunity to go do it," said Grigsby.
