EXPLORING THE CALDWELL ZOO: See ya later alligator!

For more behind-the-scenes zoo content, watch CBS19 on Fridays during Morning Y'all for the weekly segment, Exploring the Caldwell Zoo.

TYLER, Texas — The Caldwell Zoo in Tyler is home to two robust reptiles: Elwood and Allie.

These two alligators can often be found basking in the sun and brooding in the murky water. But, of course, they are big fans of chowing down on lunch.

Their powerful jaws have a bite force of 2000 psi.  That's almost twice the force of the average pressure washer.

Believe it or not, wild alligators can be found right there in East Texas.

"Any body of freshwater could have an alligator in it," said Dallas Goodwin, keeper of reptiles at the Caldwell Zoo. "Usually they pretty much like to keep to themselves. But do you see one obviously given them some distance and don't feed wild alligators."

If you're looking for a walk on the wild side, you can visit the Caldwell Zoo and catch Elwood and Allie in action. They are fed fish and chicken on habitat during the weekends.
