TYLER, Texas — Chameleons are known for their colorful nature. Festus, a chameleon at the Caldwell Zoo, is no exception.
His skin changes color depending on his surroundings and emotions. However, unlike what is seen in movies, Festus will not turn all shades of the rainbow. He usually sports a shade of blue or green.
In the wild, this serves as a camouflage method. Chameleons often stick to the the trees, so the cool tone shades blend into the leaves.
Festus is part of the zoo's education program and often participates in keeper talks during the summer.
