Auyana Aird joined the CBS19 team in April 2023.
Originally from Dallas, Auyana graduated from Duncanville High School. She received her bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Houston.
She has previously interned at FOX Sports in Charlotte, North Carolina, Houston Public Media and the University of Houston Athletics communications department. During her time at the UH, Auyana re-established the UH National Association of Black Journalists and served as president from 2022-23 and received recognition and a scholarship from the Houston chapter Association of Black Journalists Sneaker Gala along with other distinguished students and notable journalists across Texas. She also has had the opportunity to be a panelist for the University of Houston Diversity and Inclusion MLK Celebration event where she interviewed Dr. Yusef Salaam, a member of the Exonerated Five, on the theme “Keeping the Dream Alive: A Call to Action.”
She also was a sports and news reporter and anchor leader for UH’s student television station, “Coog TV.” Auyana also was a production leader for the sports show “Coogs Talk."
Auyana also is a co-host for a podcast alongside two of her friends, Take 3, that started with UH radio. She also had the opportunity to host and interview professional boxers, Olympians, and news anchors for a show that airs in Houston and On Demand through the University of Houston Jack J. Valenti School of Communication.
Auyana is a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated where she served as service chair, and co-chair for advocate for social justice initiative.
Being a heavily involved student on campus, Auyana was crowned the 2023 University of Houston Homecoming Queen with the slogan “Teamwork Makes the Dream Work,” with plans to use her platform to help the younger generation and be a mental health advocate.
She was also a scholarship recipient of the Jack J. Valenti School of Communication award in 2023.
During her free time, Auyana enjoys working out, writing music, spending time with friends, family, and her dog, painting, doing makeup and trying new foods.
